Rabies vaccination distribution to wildlife in Tennessee Valley
Bait laced with rabies vaccination for wildlife will soon be distributed around the Tennessee Valley. The United States Department of Agriculture Wildlife Services will distribute vaccines to establish an immune barrier to halt the further spread of the raccoon strain of rabies through Georgia and into other states. The barrier runs through northwest Georgia, southeast Tennessee and northeast Alabama. Bait distribution will be accomplished by hand baiting from vehicles in urban and suburban areas, and by specially equipped fixed wing aircraft in rural areas. Ground baiting is scheduled to start September 30th, 2015; aerial baiting is scheduled to start October 7th, 2015.
