KNOXVILLE (News Sentinel) -

It all started with one photo posted to Twitter about a year and half ago.

That was when East Tennessee resident Helen Van Winkle, 87, known on the Internet as ‘Baddie Winkle,’ began to reinvent herself with a bright and rebellious sense of style and carefree attitude. With the help of her great-granddaughter, Winkle has amassed around 1.6 million Instagram followers so far.

This social media fame has brought Van Winkle, granddaughter Dawn Lewis and great-granddaughter Kennedy Lewis, who all live together, to new places and star-studded opportunities.

They recently attended MTV’s Video Music Awards, where Van Winkle took a selfie with host Miley Cyrus. They juggle trips to New York City, to Los Angeles, to Canada and more.
