HAMILTON COUNTY, TN (WRCB) -

UPDATE:  A Second Hamilton County Commissioner is putting $100,000 in discretionary money back where it belongs, which is in the County's Savings account.

District 3 Commissioner Marty Haynes is following the footsteps of District 6 Commissioner Joe Graham, who wants to pass a resolution allowing the 9 commissioners to give back their discretionary spending money.

In a statement Haynes said "Consistently, the good stewardship of the taxpayer's hard-earned money has been my priority as an elected leader in Hamilton County," Haynes said "Taxpayers deserve that promises be kept. I plan just to do that"

The move stems from the June budget battle when commissioners voted to use 900-thousand dollars from the rainy day fund for discretionary spending by commissioners.

The Commission will vote on the resolution on Wednesday.

Commissioner Joe Graham says he wants to give back 100-thousand dollars of discretionary money.

He says he has more than 65-thousand dollars in expense funds built up and he wants to use that, along with future expense dollars, for the needs of district 6 instead.

The move stems from the June budget battle when commissioners voted to use 900-thousand dollars from the rainy day fund for discretionary spending by commissioners.

Graham, who has served on the commission 6 years, said during Wednesday's meeting he hopes others will follow in his footsteps.
The Commission will vote on the resolution next week.
