UT moves up 3 spots in US News rankings

KNOXVILLE (News Sentinel) -

As the University of Tennessee makes steps to improve in college rankings, the mountain becomes more steep, Chancellor Jimmy Cheek said Tuesday.

It will be harder to go higher and higher, he said. Yet Cheek said the rankings are part of an ongoing goal to improve UT.

In the 2016 U.S. News & World Report college rankings, UT ranked 103rd overall and 47th for public universities. That’s up three spots in each list compared to last year.

The magazine ranks nearly 1,400 schools using metrics that include graduation and retention rates as well as other measures of academic quality and outcomes.
