High schools tackle hunger for Chattanooga Area Food Bank

Posted: Updated:

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) - The Chattanooga Area Food Bank and Channel 3 are teaming up with several area high schools this football season to "tackle" hunger.

This week's Tackle Hunger Food Drive will be at the Grace Baptist vs. Silverdale game. Students and fans are encouraged to bring canned goods and non-perishable food items or money to Friday's game at Silverdale to donate to the Chattanooga Area Food Bank.

Donations will be taken at the gate. The contributions count toward WRCB's 2015 Share Your Christmas campaign.

Suggested non-perishable food donations include:

  • canned fruits/vegetables
  • cornmeal
  • flour
  • grits
  • pasta
  • rice
  • canned meats (tuna, chicken)
  • dry beans
  • fruit/vegetable juice
  • oats/oatmeal
  • peanut butter
  • canned soups

For more information on how to help fight hunger in our community, visit the Chattanooga Area Food Bank's website.

A few more Tackle Hunger Food Drives are planned later in the season. Stay with WRCB for more details on those efforts when they're available.
