Road construction projects begin soon

Posted: Updated:

Two construction projects, one short term and the other, a longer-term project, are slated to begin soon and may have an effect on your daily drive.

The shorter-term project will be work that will be performed at the intersection of 11th and Market Streets on Wednesday, September 9th, from 8:30am until 2:00pm.

Eastbound 11th Street from Broad Street to Market Street will be closed. Eastbound 11th Street will be closed from Columbia Street to Market.

Motorists should watch for lane closures and lane shifts on Market Street, both north and southbound, approaching 11th Street.

The longer-term project is the addition of a traffic circle at the Ooltewah-Ringgold Road/Standifer Gap Road intersection.

Construction on the roundabout will begin September 15, 2015 and is expected to be completed by April 2016.

Motorists should expect delays, with reduced speed limits, beginning September 15, 2015.

Drivers should be cautious, use alternate routes if possible, and allow extra travel time.
Commuters who use Standifer Gap Road (eastbound and westbound) will be detoured at times, with Ooltewah Ringgold Road remaining open throughout the project.
In about 2-4 weeks, the west side of Standifer Gap Road (aeastbound approach) is scheduled to be closed and detours posted. The general public will be updated with detour routes and road closure dates.
This project is funded by both the federal government and Hamilton County, according to Hamilton County spokesman Michael Dunne.
