UPDATE: The Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call regarding a missing child at a home on South Dixie Highway Sunday afternoon just before 1 o’clock.

Investigators say the father of 3-year-old Karina Anabelle Treat was visiting a family member’s home when the father noticed the child went missing. When they were unable to find Treat they called 911. When deputies arrived the two told the officers the child had been missing for 45 minutes.

Several agencies responded to help with the search. Emergency responders started searching a pond a swimming pool on the property.

Investigators say the in-ground pool was very cloudy and searchers could only see about three feet into the pool water. They had to use nets to search the bottom of the pool. Around 3 p.m. responders found the child in the deep end of the pool in around six feet of water.

An autopsy will be conducted. The Coroner’s Office is assisting in the investigation.

According to the Whitfield County Sheriff's Office it is investigating the drowning of a 3 year old girl.

Emergency Management issued a missing child alert around 2 o'clock for the child, on its Facebook page.

She was reported missing from the 4800 block of South Dixie Highway.

According to family the child was found in the bottom of a neighbor's pool. 

The Sheriff's office confirms the child did not survive.
