Columbia, KY (dsroadrunners.com) -– The Dalton State golf team came from behind on Saturday to defeat home standing Lindsey Wilson in the Blue Raider Golf Classic at the Pines at Lindsey Wilson’s Par 71, 6628 yards course.
The Roadrunners had been down by seven points after Friday’s first day of the two-day, 36 hole tournament. While Dalton State (285-277=558) improved by four strokes on Saturday, Lindsey Wilson (274-290=564) shot a +6 to finish second. Union College (285-285=570) finished the tournament in third place. Mt. Vernon Nazarene (282-291=573) was fourth. Milligan College (286-289=575) and Lindsey Wilson B (282-293=575) were tied for fifth in the 15-team field.
Dalton State’s Sean Elliott won a play-off to become medalist in his first tournament of the fall. Elliott (66-66=132) and Charlie Phillips of Mt. Vernon Nazarene finished 36 holes in a tie for the lead.
The Roadrunner’s Chase Jones (72-69=141) finished tied for 8th individually. Freshman Adam Morris (74-69=143) and senior Levi Nix (72-71=143) were close behind but tied for 14th. Dalton Johnson (73-76=149) finished tied for 43rd in the 81-golfer field.
“I’m really proud of our guys attitude and the way they came out and competed today,” said DS Coach Ben Rickett. “We knew we had out work cut out for us and they responded like champions. It was a total team effort and I’m proud of how they all played. Congratulations to Sean on another great tournament as he picked up right where he left off last year. This was a good start to the season but we know we have a lot of hard work left to get where we want to be.”
Dalton State men’s golfers will play in the Carpet Capital Collegiate Classic next weekend – Friday, Saturday and Sunday – at The Farm golf club.
