The heat is on for one more day before "cooling off" this weekend. The air stays muggy with showers and storms returning.
Friday is hot again as highs soar to the lower 90s under abundant sunshine (normal high for Chattanooga for Friday is 87º). Heat index will approach the middle 90s. Best chances for spotty afternoon/early evening showers are in the Blue Ridge mountains and the Cumberland Plateau.
Most of us stay dry at kickoff for our high school football games tonight; just some clouds with lows near 70°.
Winds off the Atlantic bring additional moisture and higher odds for rain this weekend, but don't cancel your outdoor plans just yet. Rain won't be non-stop all weekend. Showers and storms will be hit-and-miss and mostly in the afternoon/early evening. Look for highs near 90° Saturday, mid-80s Sunday, lows in the upper 60s.
Labor Day features spotty hit-and-miss showers and storms with highs in the upper 80s. The same goes for Tuesday and Wednesday. Chances may go up Thursday.
