Atlanta to have busy traffic night Thursday

Posted: Updated:

If you’re headed to Atlanta early to enjoy the Labor Day weekend, you may want to pack some extra sunscreen and some extra patience.

Four big events could make navigating traffic a challenge.

Thursday night at 7:30pm is the kickoff for Georgia Tech's season opener against Alcorn State at Bobby Dodd Stadium .

Also, the final preseason game for Atlanta Falcons starts Thursday at 7:00pm at the Georgia Dome. Expect heavy traffic near the Northside Drive and Williams Street exits.

Adding to that is Vice President Joe Biden’s speech, also Thursday, at 7:30pm at the Ahavath Achim Synagogue in Buckhead.

As Chattanoogans remember from his visit for the memorial service for the Fallen Five, traffic may be severely impacted.

Biden’s route has not been made public, but motorists can expect the motorcade to and from the venue to clog some part of the interstates.

Also this weekend is the huge DragonCon event downtown, which officially begins Friday.

MARTA, Atlanta's rail/bus mass transit system, will be offering free rides on Labor Day, but that won't help much for the weekend.

Georgia's DOT has suspended road construction over the holiday weekend.

Stay ahead of the traffic with the WRCB Traffic app, which works in Atlanta and Chattanooga.
