Pioneers lose home field advantage as Raymond James Stadium condemned
EAST RIDGE, TN (WRCB) -- The 2015 prep football season has taken a strange turn already for the East Ridge Pioneers, who will play next week against visiting Signal Mountain but will do so at Baylor's Heywood Stadium.
East Ridge Head Football Coach Tracy Malone referred all questions about the stadium's closure Friday night to the school's principal Tammy Helton, but did confirm to Channel 3 Sports that next Friday's game, originally slated for East Ridge's Raymond James Stadium, will be played at Baylor instead.
The stadium was closed after the aging facility was deemed unsafe by the Fire Chief.
He investigated a complaint about the structure's integrity, and after finding large cracks in the foundation and large chunks of cement missing in some places, the stadium has been closed indefinitely.
Initial repair estimates for the stadium, owned by Hamilton County schools, near half a million dollars.
