COLUMBIA, KY (dsroadrunners.com) – Indiana University Southeast (1-2) knocked-off the Dalton State volleyball Roadrunners in three sets Saturday in the Lindsey Wilson Classic, held at the Holloway Center.
“Today was a really tough day for us,” said Coach Bruna Langner after her second loss of the day. “We had a lot of changes because we still don’t know who will start. The girls aren’t used to a lot of changes.”
The Roadrunners (1-3) started out with a 7-3 run in the first set. The Grenadiers came back to even the score at seven. They never trailed the set or the match again. The Roadrunners did come close (22-21), but fell short 25-22.
The second set was never in doubt. IU Southeast got off to a 10-2 lead and never looked back on their way to a 25-11 route.
Dalton State fell behind by 10 (13-3) in the third set, but scored the next five to make the score 13-8. The Grenadiers then held on for the 25-17 set victory and the match.
Michala Askew had 19 assists and 11 digs for Dalton State. Wendy Perez collected ten kills, Kianna Delaney had four kills and seven digs, Anna Metzler had five kills and seven digs. Savannah Nelson added four kills and four blocks.
The Roadrunners return home to host a Tri-Match at Bandy Gymnasium on Saturday, September 5th. “There is going to be a lot of work this week in getting ready for our home openers,” said Langner.
Dalton State and Reinhardt University will match-up at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Reinhardt meets Milligan College at noon. Milligan and Dalton State will play at 2:00 p.m. Admission to all Dalton State home volleyball games is free.
