RINGGOLD, GA (WRCB) --- For an eighth straight season, Ringgold rules the crosstown rivalry against Heritage High School's Generals, but much like last year, the margin of victory is drawing closer.
The Tigers struck first after an odd turnover on the Generals' first possession of the game.
Quarterback Devin Lancaster handing off to Dee King who churns the final six yards for Ringgold's first touchdown of the evening.
Lancaster would unload deep on the Tigers' next possession, hitting Joey Collins in stride as he took it all the way for a 14-0 Ringgold lead.
But the General's Corbee Wilson unleashed a deep ball of his own, finding Drew Sherill by his lonesome in the Tigers' defensive backfield for a quick 14-7 deficit for Heritage.
After a Ringgold field goal made it 17-7, Wilson again to the air and finding Jefferey Curtis for six, 17-14 Heritage is clawing back.
But Dee King converts on the rush attempt for another Ringgold score as they miss the extra point, 23-21 Tigers.
Back comes Heritage and another Corbee Wilson bomb to Luke Grant who whistles into the end zone for a 29-21 score.
Still first half and neither team is willing to relent as Khalyahl Hood takes it in before the half for a 29-28 score.
It would stay that way until late, both teams trade 4th quarter touchdowns and a Ringgold interception stops any thought of a Heritage upset, 36-34 Ringgold wins to even their season at 1-1.
The Generals fall in their 2015 season opener, as they prepare for the Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe Warriors next Friday.
The Tigers have a bye as they prepare for Adairsville the following Friday night in Ringgold.
