Denso to expand in east TN, creating 500 new jobs

Posted: Updated:

Denso Manufacturing Tennessee announced plans Tuesday for a $400 million expansion of its automotive parts plant in Blount County, which will bring 500 new jobs to the area.

The announcement came as the Japan-based global corporation celebrates its 25th year in the Maryville area. The project will mark the ninth major expansion of its 194-acre campus, which has seen $1.3 billion in investment to date.

Gov. Bill Haslam and U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander were among the elected officials and area business leaders to greet the news with a standing ovation during a reception at Maryville College’s Clayton Center for the Arts.

“Of all the thousands of auto parts suppliers in the world, Denso is the fourth largest,” Haslam said. “They have manufacturing plants everywhere. They could have built anywhere. … That’s a really big deal. That doesn’t happen all that frequently these days, regardless of who you are or where you are.”
