UPDATE: Republican presidential candidate Marco Rubio made a campaign stop in Chattanooga on Thursday at the Lindsay Street Hall.

Rubio got the Chattanooga crowd fired up on some key issues ahead of the 2016 election – especially when the U.S. Senator from Florida announced he wants to strengthen the military and repeal Obamacare.

The 44-year-old Republican Senator centered his speech around the “American Dream.” Rubio is the son of Cuban immigrants. He told the crowd that dream isn’t so much about your salary, but about “the opportunity to achieve happiness”, as his family was able to do.

However, Rubio said that in order to keep the American Dream alive for future generations, changes need to be made in Washington D.C.

He called for modernizing economic policies to stay ahead of global competitors and reforming Social Security and Medicare programs for the future.

Rubio also called for revolutionizing the higher education system and training more people for vocational careers, like welders and mechanics.

But the GOP hopeful drew the most cheers from the crowd when he said he wants to reverse Obamacare.

“We don’t need Obamacare in order to provide people health insurance in America. We need a system that puts you in charge of your healthcare decisions,” Rubio announced.

Additional popular points during Thursday’s speech were tightening national security, strengthening the military and its budget, and taking better care of veterans.

Another presidential hopeful is coming to the Scenic City, arriving Thursday for a scheduled event.

Florida's United States Senator Marco Rubio (R) will hold a rally Thursday, September 3, 2015 at the Lindsay Street Hall.

The rally will be between 3:30 p.m and 5:00 p.m.

The event is free but you must register in advance
