UPDATE: 1 person killed, police officer wounded in north Alabama gun battle

UPDATE: NBC affiliate WAFF reports that a female suspect has been arrested in the theft that led to the shooting of Arab, AL police officer, Jeff "Preacher" Warren.

Warren was transported to Huntsville hospital for treatment of his injuries.


PREVIOUS STORY: CULLMAN, AL (AP) - Authorities say a gunfight involving police officers in northern Alabama left one person dead and an officer wounded.

Cullman County Sheriff Matt Gentry tells Al.com (http://bit.ly/1MIkXYZ) the shooting happened Sunday afternoon near the Cullman-Marshall county line following a police chase.

Police in the town of Arab say the shooting involved one of the department's officers.

Arab Police Chief Ed Ralston tells WHNT-TV (http://bit.ly/1NuJsdE) that the officer was shot in his upper left leg, and the injuries aren't considered life-threatening.

Police say one person was killed in the gunfire, but it was not immediately clear how they died.

Cullman County District Attorney Wilson Blaylock declined to release the identity of the person who was killed. The races of the officers and the deceased person weren't immediately available.
