KNOXVILLE, TN (WRCB) -- As Vols Head Coach Butch Jones sees progress in Juaun Jennings' transition from quarterback to wide out, Tennessee got a big shot in the arm at the quarterback position for the future from all places, Brownsburg, Indiana.
According to multiple media reports, prized 5 star recruit Hunter Johnson committed to Tennessee Sunday.
The 6'3, 200 pound Johnson is considered as the #1 quarterback recruit in the country.
He's the first Vol commitment for the 2017 class.
Johnson choosing Tennessee over a plethora of SEC schools as well as Notre Dame and North Carolina State.
“Playing in the SEC, Coach Jones, Coach Debord and Coach Sheridan, the whole coaching staff, it’s a really great coaching staff," said Johnson to 247Sports. " Tennessee is really on the rise right now. I feel like Tennessee is an opportunity I can’t really pass up.”
Tennessee was reportedly the first school to tender Johnson a scholarship offer.
“I’m really excited about it,” Johnson said. “I’ve always known they really want me there and it’s always been a school I’ve been really interested in.”
