Cleveland officer resigns over "unintentional" text message

Posted: Updated:

A Cleveland Police officer has resigned after he allegedly sent an inappropriate text to a female co-worker.

Officer Eddie Bonnett, who has been with the department for 14 years, submitted his letter of resignation on Friday.

Interim Chief Mark Gibson tells Channel 3, a complaint was filed against Bonnett on Wednesday after he sent a nude photograph of himself to another department employee.

The exchange took place on personal cell phones. Gibson says Bennett told those investigating the complaint the photo was meant for someone else and he sent it to his co-worker unintentionally.

Bonnett was placed on administrative leave but chose to resign ahead of a full internal investigation.

Bonnett's resignation is effective on August 29. Gibson says the unpaid administrative leave will remain in place until then.
