We kick things off on Friday Night Football and Band of the Week with the Soddy-Daisy High School Marching Band. With home and away games, at least four contests, and a big Christmas parade in Georgia, their dance card is pretty full, this semester.
Their opening game was actually their second performance of a show called "Reflections in the Blue." The piece featuring music and shapes reminiscent of water was written by Frank Sullivan and the group ran it for their parents at the end of a highly successful band camp. After about a week's worth of rain, they are ready to get it on the field in front of the home fans.
In his second year at the helm, Director Joshua Light says he has 112 great kids and a very supportive school and community. They all make it possible to travel and perform locally, from Bradley Central to Rome, Georgia, all the way to the Bands of America competition in Jacksonville, Alabama. Then, come December, the group has been invited to represent Tennessee in the It is a very busy group Atlanta Children's Christmas Parade.
They fund these trips with fund-raisers like their annual fruit and cheese sale. If you would like to support them, or you just like Fruit and or cheeses, get in touch with Mr. Light in the Soddy-Daisy Band Room. The sale runs the entire month of October.
Be sure to take a look at their performance for the Channel 3 camera and be ready to sing-along as they play "Hang On, Sloopy!" Thanks to Mr. Light and all the students in the Soddy-Daisy Marching Band, your first Friday Night Football Band of the Week of 2015!
