Posted: Updated:

East Ridge Police responded to a report of domestic violence assault around 2:30 a.m. in the 3700 block of Whitehead Ave, Saturday.

Officers immediately made contact with a male and female victim outside of the residence.

The female victim told police her brother, Tommy Durham, 36 had assaulted both her and her boyfriend before chasing them out of their residence with a machete.

Durham had retreated back inside the residence prior to police arrival and would not respond when police attempted to make contact with him at the door.

Police did observe through a window that Durham was still armed with the machete. The East Ridge SWAT team was activated, they arrived on the scene around 3:15 a.m.

A member of ERPD Patrol Division was able to eventually make telephone contact with Durham, he peacefully surrendered himself to police around 5:00 a.m. Durham was taken into custody without incident.

Police say the two victims were taken by ambulance to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Officials say Durham will be charged with one count of Aggravated Domestic Assault. He will be scheduled to appear in East Ridge court July 21. Police say his bond has not yet been set.
