UPDATE: The driver of a pickup truck slammed into a semi's trailer Tuesday morning on Amnicola Highway, and was trapped in the wreckage for about 30 minutes until Chattanooga firefighters were able to free him from the wreckage.

A small fire in the engine compartment was quickly extinguished, but gasoline leak from the truck kept firefighters at on alert as they worked to free the driver.

The man in the truck was “conscious and alert” according to the Chattanooga Fire Department's Bruce Garner, but there's no word on his condition. he was transported to a nearby hospital for examination and treatment.

Amnicola Highway was closed as firefighters and first responders attended to those involved.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Chattanooga Police Department.

The crash happened near Creekside Road around 10am. Police say that the semi and another truck crashed.

One person was injured and has been transported to a nearby hospital for examination and treatment.
