Man accused of arson and assaulting Hamilton County deputy

CHATTANOOGA - A Hamilton County man is suspected of setting his grandparent's house on fire and assaulting the responding deputy.

Hamilton County Sheriff's Deputies responded Monday night to a house fire on Hillsdale Circle where the residents claimed it was started deliberately.

Deputies found matches outside the home and the owners claim their 23-year-old grandson Traven Williams tried to burn down their house with them inside.

Deputies tried to talk with Williams but say he became combative and had to use a stun gun to subdue the 23-year-old man.

Williams then hit the deputy in the head and ran to his grandfather who held him until he was taken into custody.

The injured deputy was transported by ambulance to a local hospital as a precaution.

Williams is expected to be booked into the Hamilton County Jail this morning on several charges including aggravated assault.
