A man shot by a police officer near a Manchester, TN church was airlifted to Erlanger.

An investigation is underway after an officer shot a suspect near the Concord Church in Tullahoma on Thursday morning. 

Police were in the area after receiving a call about a suspicious person wearing camouflage around 10 a.m.Officers found the man and approached him, which is when he pulled out a knife, according to the Coffee County Sheriff's Office.

The officer claims to have shot the man in self-defense. The sheriff's office would not say how many shots were fired.

The man was taken by medical helicopter to a hospital in Chattanooga and is expected to survive. The officer was not harmed during the incident. 

Officials have not released the names of those involved in the shooting.
