Crime Stoppers: Help with flat turns to Attempted Armed Robbery

Posted: Updated:

We could call this week's case "The Phony Good Samaritans." Chattanooga Police Officer Tim McFarland set the stage. "June 5th at approximately 5 o'clock in the morning," he said, "a motorist was stranded due to a flat tire on Gunbarrel Road, in the 1500 block."

The man walked to a convenience store to call for help. He met two men, inside, who offered to take him home to get a spare tire. "Couldn't find the spare tire," Off. McFarland continued, "so, they transported him back to his truck, and left him there. A few minutes later, they came back. One of them brandished a firearm and demanded all of his personal belongings and valuables."

The victim took off running and the bad guys came up empty handed. Gunbarrel is a very busy road most times of the day, but not so much at 5 AM. This crime could have happened in a vacuum with no pictures or video, but the meeting took place at a convenience store and their surveillance cameras provided several good pictures. "I think they're clear enough to be able for someone to recognize them," added Off. McFarland.

If you do, call Crime Stoppers: 698-3333

Stop these guys before they try to take advantage of someone else. You will remain anonymous. "Your information will never be revealed," explained McFarland. "The only way it will ever be out there is if you put it out there."

If your tip leads to an arrest, you are eligible for up to $1,000 reward cash. "Our Board of Directors will contact you to write you a check," McFarland said, and there won't even have to be a name on the check."
