DALTON, GA (WRCB) -
Dr. Margaret Venable has been named interim president of Dalton State for the next fiscal year. Her original appointment to the position was set to end June 30. But it has been extended until the end of June 2016.
Venable began as interim on January 1 of this year following former president Dr. John Schwenn's retirement.
She served as provost and vice president of Academic Affairs at Gordon State College in Barnesville previously, and has worked for 24 years for the University System of Georgia in many other capacities.
Venable holds a doctorate in science education from Georgia State. Her masters and undergraduate degrees are in chemistry from Georgia Tech and Agnes Scott College, respectively.
“When I was first asked to serve Dalton State as interim president, I expected it to be for only six months.I have fallen in love with this college and community in these few months and so I am thrilled to be able to continue to serve this institution and community. I am grateful for the confidence University System of Georgia Chancellor Hank Huckaby has shown in me,” said Dr. Venable.
Venable's experience with the University System of Georgia also includes the University of North Georgia's Oconee Campus, where she served as vice president and chief executive officer.
