:  Tennessee Highway Patrol has released the details in a fatal accident Tuesday night on I-75 S. 

A dump truck,carrying asphalt millings, was traveling south in the left hand lane, that was closed off due to construction. The victim, Jason R. Cope, 42, of Cleveland was walking across the southbound left hand lane trying to cross the road. He was walking at a 45 degree angle with his back towards the traffic. The truck was going downhill around a left hand curve.  

When the driver saw the pedestrian in the roadway he braked heavily and steered to the left toward the barrier wall in an attempt to avoid a collision.  The vehicle hit the Cope with the passenger front corner of the truck. This collision pushed the pedestrian into the right hand traffic flow lane. 

While the pedestrian was on the ground an unknown vehicle ran over the victim. The unknown vehicle continued traveling south on Interstate 75 and did not stop. The truck came to a stopped in the left hand traffic lane. 

Tennessee Highway Patrol and Chattanooga Police are working an accident on Interstate 75 southbound at mile marker 14. 

That is between Ooltewah and Cleveland. The call came in to dispatch around 11:30 Tuesday night.  

THP confirmed to Channel 3 the victim died. 

The Interstate was shut down for some time and traffic was rerouted at exit 20. 

THP is still working to identify the victim's name.
