UPDATE: Fire investigators with the Fire Investigation Division tell Channel 3, the cause of Friday morning's fire on Plumwood Road appears to be accidental, though what exactly sparked the blaze remains under investigation.

Captain Andrew Waters tells Channel 3, firefighters did manage to contain the fire to the living room, but smoke and heat damage caused quite a bit of damage to the rest of the house and its contents.

The dollar loss was estimated at $60,000.

Chattanooga firefighters rushed to a house fire late Friday morning at 3414 Plumwood Road. Investigators tell Channel 3,  light smoke was showing when they arrived on the scene.

Firefighters forced their way in through the front door and found the fire in the front living room. Investigators say they got the fire out in roughly 10 minutes, containing the fire damage to the living room. The rest of the house had some smoke damage.

The owner of the house told firefighters that he had just been gone about 30 minutes. The man said he lived alone and did not have insurance.

Volunteers with the American Red Cross of Southeast Tennessee were called in to provide assistance to the victim. Two dogs found in the yard were uninjured.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
