GRUNDY COUNTY, TN - UPDATE: Jail escapee, Kenneth Franklin has not been caught.

Sheriff Clint Shrum says he's gotten some good leads but they haven't been able to pinpoint a location.

There is some suspicion he is in Georgia, but they haven't been able to confirm that.

PREVIOUS STORY: A Grundy County inmate is on the run after escaping from a worship service. Police say he asked to go to the restroom, then took off running.

Grundy County Sheriff Clint Shrum says once the inmate was left unattended, he believes he escaped through a hole in the fence and ran into the woods.

"It just so happens that we got a lead that we feel like is some good information," said Sheriff Shrum, "And so we're trying to run this lead out, it's kept us real busy all day."

The Sheriff is looking for any tip that brings 43-year-old Kenneth Franklin back to jail.

Franklin was one of seven inmates at the jail's worship service Wednesday night.

He asked the worship leader to use the restroom, left the building unattended, and police haven't seen him since.

"He's not had a history of violence, but what we do know is that he will run from law enforcement."

Running from police is what landed Franklin in Grundy County Jail to begin with.

He was picked up in April after a police chase out of Warren County.

"He found an opportunity and he took advantage of that opportunity, and it's one of those places where we're trying to make sure that opportunity doesn't happen again."

The Sheriff says inmates are not allowed to use the restroom unattended at any time.

If they're at the worship hall, which is a small building behind the jail, the worship leader is responsible for telling a corrections officer, and then the corrections officer will escort the inmate back inside the jail to use the restroom.

"What we're trying to find out is, why was that CO, during that period of time when Franklin left, why was that CO not watching that door," Sheriff Shrum said.

When inmates are here at the worship hall they are left alone with the worship leader, the Sheriff says it's standard procedure to radio a corrections officer before leaving an inmate unattended.

The Sheriff says Franklin recently had heart surgery and does not have his medications with him. If anyone has information please call 911 or the Grundy County Sheriff's Office at 931-692-3466.
