Citico Avenue apartment fire leaves two homeless

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) - On Friday, Chattanooga firefighters responded to an apartment fire just before 7 p.m. Six fire companies responded to the fire, located at 2709 Citico Avenue.

Fire investigators tell Channel 3 that heavy smoke was showing in Apartment 5 in Building B when the first firefighters arrived on the scene and flames were shooting out a front window.

Investigators tell Channel 3, firefighters were able to get the fire out in roughly 20 minutes, containing the fire to the one unit. 

The dollar loss was estimated at $50,000.

No one was home and no injuries were reported, however, the family's pet dog died in the fire. 

Volunteers with the American Red Cross of Southeast Tennessee were called in to provide assistance to the two residents. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
