Chattanooga FC reacts to FIFA arrests

Posted: Updated:

CHATTANOOGA, TN  (WRCB) -- As Chattanooga FC squad prepares for the Atlanta Silverbacks Wednesday night at Finley Stadium, the team's General Manager was reacting to the news of the sports' governing body's latest scandal.

Raids took place early Wednesday morning in Switzerland at the offices of FIFA, the governing body of soccer, and at a luxury hotel in Zurich. Seven soccer officials were arrested as the U.S. and Switzerland conduct an investigation into alleged corruption within FIFA. U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch says investigators have found $110 million in bribes linked to the planning of the 2016 Copa America soccer tournament, which is being held in the U.S. for the first time.

Hours after the arrests were revealed, Sean McDaniel, Chattanooga FC's GM, had this reaction.

" Honestly, this is not a surprise to those in the soccer circles," said Sean McDaniel Wednesday afternoon. " There's always been whispers , there's always been rumors that money is exchanging hands improperly for countries to actually gain access or gain  ability to host major soccer events. So, it's not a surprise."

McDaniel believes there will be little, if any blow back locally from the European criminal probe.

More reaction tonight at 6.
