Chattanooga National cemetery needs your help in gathering Memorial Day flags

Posted: Updated:

With the 2015 Memorial Day now over, the Chattanooga National Cemetery is asking for volunteers to help remove the small flags placed at every marker.

More than 43,000 flags were placed at the cemetery for observation of Memorial Day.

The Cherokee Area Council Scouts, the Chattanooga Area Veterans Council and the cemetery staff are asking for the public's help in collecting and bundling the flags.

Once gathered, they are rolled up in bundles of ten and stored, but can't be stored wet.

If you'd like to volunteer, you can simply report to the cemetery office Tuesday through Friday of this week, between 8:30am-4:30pm, or contact the office at 423-855-6590 extension 5802 for additional information.
