Keeping the fans and competitors safe at the USA Cycling Professional National Championships

Posted: Updated:
CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -

Thousands of spectators lined downtown streets Monday morning to watch the US Pro National Cycling Championship.

The women began at 9am and the men start at 1:30pm.

The course took the women up Lookout Mountain twice and up the steep Kent Street hill in North Chattanooga eight times. The men will go up Kent Street 11 times.

There was added security for the second year at the start and finish line. The Public Works Department bolted wooden covers atop of the metal trashcans near MLK and Market streets in light of the Boston Marathon bombing.

Keep in mind there are still many road closures across town as part of the race. Stay ahead of the closures by checking out the WRCB Traffic app.
