Crews prepare for USA cycling road race

Posted: Updated:

About 50 crew members spent Sunday setting up the finish line for Monday's road race. It's not just the course that had to be prepared,
barriers are in place to direct the thousands of spectators expected to spend Memorial Day on the side lines.

“Right now we are just doing the set-up which entails everything from the timing, the stage, everything like that,” said Larry Ramona of Socket Events.

By late afternoon the scene was set.  It's a well orchestrated effort that involves a lot of moving parts.

“Sometimes we are at the mercy of when the roads can close before we can set up so that does delay our timing for set up and planning,” said Ramona.

Female cyclists will pedal over 69 miles around the scenic city starting at 9 AM Monday. The men will begin at 1:30 PM. They will travel more than 111 miles.  It all starts at the corner of Market and MLK.

If you are heading downtown Monday the corner of Market and MLK will be blocked off.
