Ringgold mother charged with leaving child in car

Posted: Updated:

A Ringgold mother is charged leaving her 3 year old child in the car while shopping at a store in Calhoun, GA.

Lori Ann Curtis was charged with second-degree cruelty to children.

Calhoun Police say on Sunday about 6:30 p.m., an officer was called to the store in reference to a small child locked in a vehicle alone. The officer noted the outside temperature was 82 degrees. The car windows were up and doors locked with a child secured in a safety seat. The child was alert and didn't seem to be in distress.

As the officer was running the tag, Curtis came running out of the store hysterical, saying she just realized she left her child in the car.

She said her son is usually noisy in the car, but he was quiet on that day, which is why she forgot he was with her.

The Department of Family and Children Services was contacted and the child was placed in the grandmother's custody in Chattanooga.

Curtis was booked at the Gordon County Jail. She has since bonded out.
