CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -
UPDATE: The line was out the door at 10 a.m. when the job fair started at Brainerd Crossroads. Some hopefuls were waiting in line for hours, but for good reason. Amazon says job offers would be handed out Tuesday if the person meets all the qualifications.
Amazon's Chattanooga fulfillment center is looking to hire 500 full-time positions.
The positions will pick, pack and ship customer orders.
Amazon says the jobs are to fulfill an increased demand of online orders worldwide.
Amazon says job offers will be handed out today if the person is qualified, and unlike many of the other amazon job fairs, this is for full-time positions with benefits.
Among the hundreds of hopefuls waiting in line, we found 23-year-old Nicholas Manley ready to be called for his first interview.
"I got here at like 9:55 a.m. and it was already out the door," Manley said, "And then I'm blessed to be here right now."
Nicholas Manley landed his first job at 15 years old working at a movie theater.
He's had several jobs in the service industry since then but none of them full-time positions.
"I don't know what it means to work full-time, I've never had a job where I was full-time," Manley said, "So this would be the first, if i get this job."
Manley moved on to the second phase which is almost like a training seminar that talks more about the available positions.
Amazon is looking for people to pick, pack and ship customer orders because of what they is an increased demand.
After about 30 minutes, Manley walked out of the interview and couldn't hide his huge grin.
"I want to pick, because I told you I want to walk, and get stronger in the legs," Manley said, "Five miles a day, five to six miles a day working 10 hour shifts."
Manley says he has to wait on background checks and drug testing results but if those check out he will be one of the 500 new full time employees starting soon.
Manley says its a giant step on his career path.
He hopes to one day own his own massage therapy business.
"I'm going to use this opportunity to put money toward building up my own little business for that," Manley said, "And that's basically what I love to do is massage therapy."
Amazon says that the positions will offer competitive wages and comprehensive benefits starting on day one. Those benefits include health insurance, 401(k) with 50% match, bonuses and company stock awards.
The positions also offer full-time employees programs like Career Choice, where the company will pre-pay up to 95% of tuition for courses related to in-demand fields, regardless of whether the skills are relevant to a career at Amazon.
