Burglars hitting cars in Cleveland

Posted: Updated:
CLEVELAND, TN (WRCB) - The Cleveland Police Department has a message for the community, lock your doors. They say theft is the number one crime in the city. The last couple thieves have targeted numerous cars. They are hitting cars parked in shopping plazas, residential neighborhoods, and on the campus of Lee University

“A lot of the students would leave laptops and things in their vehicles, so these thieves will walk around the cars,” said Evie West, PIO, Cleveland Police Department.

Channel 3 spoke with a woman who didn't want to show her face on camera. Her car was one of the handful of cars targeted by burglars along Oakdale Ave in Cleveland. Luckily for her, the burglars didn't take anything, but that's not the case for everyone else living on the street and around Cleveland. Cleveland PD tells Channel 3 they aren't taking this issue lightly.

“They are on it, they are getting out there they are investigating, they are talking to people they have informants,” said west.

They want the community to remember to lock their doors. Cleveland PD tells us they don't have a description of the suspects. They are trying to gather information from the community. If you see anything suspicious, they want you to call 423-476-1121.
