UPDATE: Hundreds of people gathered outside the new Cabela's in Ft. Oglethorpe for Wednesday morning's grand opening.

Almost 100 people camped outside overnight for a chace to score opening day deals. The first 500 people in line got a gift card to the outdoor sporting goods store.

Before Wednesday, the closest Cabela's was in Acworth, Ga.

"Before we would have to order it online or go to one of the other stores," said customer Holly Mosley.

The store opened at 10 a.m. and some people even admitted to skipping work and school to make an appearance.

PREVIOUS STORY: The hype has been building for months as Cabela's, the gigantic outdoor sporting goods store, will open its doors Wednesday morning.

The 72,000 square foot store is located off interstate I-75 in Fort Oglethorpe.

It features an aquarium, boat shop, and tons of gear for outdoor enthusiasts.

Some people have been camping at the store out since Sunday night.

Making sure they're one of the first 500 people out here to get that free gift card.

Other people wanted to hide from our cameras because they said they skipped work to come out and get their place in line.

"Oh my goodness! We brought hamburgers, hot dogs. This morning we had sausage," said Laura Holder, Camping out at Cabela's.

The front of Cabela's is a temporary campsite for Laura Holder and her son. They've been there since Sunday night making sure no one gets in the new store before they do on Wednesday morning.

Making friends, having a good time," said Holder.

This mom from Soddy Daisy packed up the cooler and has been sleeping in her camping chair, holding down the number one spot outside the front doors.

"Sitting here crocheting this. I started it when I got here and I'll finish it tonight. It's my Cabela's blanket for my new grandbaby," said Holder

We're really happy they're in Catoosa County. It's a bonus for our local economy in a big way," said Denise Burns, Ringgold.

But just across the state line in East Ridge, 28 acres wait on one of Cabela's biggest competitors, Bass Pro Shops.

The 85,000 square foot store, which is about 13,000 square feet bigger than Cabela's, is set to open in late Spring or early Summer of next year.

For now, Burns has just one megastore option, but will soon have two.

"We live an outdoor lifestyle. So we use a lot of boots and other outdoor gear," said Burns.

Her family was traveling an hour and a half to the nearest Cabela's.

Now, it's just a 15 minute drive down the road. It's a shopping trip her kids want to tag along, too.

"It's really cool. It has all the deer on pegs," said Eston Burns, Cabela's Shopper.

"Our local residents go out of their way to support local business. And when Cabela's lands in your county, they're a local business, even though they're nationwide. So we're really excited that they're here," said Denise Burns.

The store has brought 200 jobs to the area. The grand opening festivities like start at 7 a.m. Wednesday.

The store's doors aren't set to open until 10. So the countdown is on for the campers with about 16 hours to go.
