Lookouts romp over Generals 16-3

Posted: Updated:
CHATTANOOGA, TN (lookouts.com) --- The Chattanooga Lookouts (17-12) clubbed a season-high 18 hits in a 16-3 win over the Jackson Generals (11-16).  The Lookouts have now won four straight games and eight out of their last 10 contests.

Jackson scored in the first inning, but the Lookouts offense got going in the bottom of that inning and never looked back.  A Jorge Polanco sacrifice fly and a Miguel Sano double brought home the team's first two runs.  The team kept pouring on runs with three in the third highlighted by Adam Brett Walker's league leading eighth homer.  The Generals briefly cut the deficit down to three, but a RBI single by Polanco and another sacrifice fly by Sano made it 7-2 Lookouts.

The flood gates opened for Chattanooga in the bottom of the sixth as the team poured on seven runs. Travis Harrison, Walker, Max Kepler and Heiker Meneses strung together four doubles to plate four of the seven runs.  The rest scored on a single by Byron Buxton, a sacrifice fly by Wickens and a Sano RBI single.  Chattanooga finished the contest with a season-high six doubles. Six of the team's starters had multiple hits and four had multiple RBIs.

Almost lost in the offensive outburst was the strong effort by the Lookouts pitchers.  DJ Baxendale continued his strong start to the season by only allowing two runs in five innings.  He now has an ERA of 1.24 which is the second lowest in the league. Cole Johnson and Nick Burdi also made appearances and combined to allow only one run in four innings.

With the 10-game homestand under wraps the team now heads to Birmingham for six games before coming back to Chattanooga on Saturday.  Alex Wimmers (0-0, 6.43) will start in game one opposite Tony Bucciferro (0-1, 7.20).
