UPDATE: Bradley Co. crash marks third in 4 hours

UPDATE: I never heard any brakes lock down at all. All I heard was the impact, then get down here and everything's in flames," said Clinton Hullender, who was working outside when the crash happened on Friday morning.

He rushed over and tried to help, but the flames were too large.

"The main thing you wanna do is get in there and try to help somebody, but 911 was about the only option I had," said Hullender.

The crash happened off APD 40 in Cleveland right outside Peyton's Southeastern Distribution, which is part of the Kroger store group.

"They ship tons and tons of cargo out of here every day... It is a dangerous area," said Erwin Lowe, who owns the trailer rental and repair business next door, Giant.

According to THP, a Land Star truck hauling car parts was westbound on APD 40 when the driver hit a truck from A Plus Pallets, a company out of Cleveland.

The pallet driver was also traveling westbound, and slowing down to turn into the facility. The impact caused a chain reaction, and a JB Hunt truck hauling cigarettes was also hit.

"The JB Hunt truck was engulfed. Thank God the driver was about 15 yards from it with a gash on his arm, so it was a miracle," said Lowe.

THP investigates commercial motor vehicle crashes differently because it's a highly regulated industry.

Lt. John Harmon said a post-crash investigation team will be checking all three trucks for any defects that might have happened during or before the crash.

"We're going to look at every avenue. They'll be looking at his log books, his medical card, the equipment. They'll be checking phone records, things like that. All of that will be taking place under the investigation," Harmon said.

THP released the names of the two surviving drivers: Joseph Kambo and Jeff Whiticker.

The investigation will take several days to complete, and it is too early to tell if charges will be filed against the driver at fault.
