CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) - As you walk down the halls of East Side Elementary early in the morning, you might hear "Happy" by Pharrell Williams. If you stop and ask any student or teacher, they will tell you exactly what that means. It means every teacher in the building is present and it is going to be a great day of teaching and learning.

Another thing you will hear as you walk down the halls is an afternoon announcement from principal Stephanie Hinton, congratulating individual classrooms by name with 100% attendance, and more often than not you will hear her announce entire grade levels with perfect attendance.

The school has been working on a goal of having all students present. Principal Hinton reminds students that when that day comes, there will be a big party! It is a lofty goal, with 619 students enrolled.

Recently the school had 99 percent attendance, and as promised, they celebrated with an ice cream party.
