Principal, teacher accused of grabbing students by the neck

GRIFFIN, Ga. (AP) - Two Spalding County elementary school employees have surrendered to authorities after being accused of using excessive physical force against two elementary school students.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution ( reports that investigators say Atkinson Elementary School principal Aveory Allen and teacher Derek Wilder are accused of grabbing two boys by the neck on March 26. Parents of the children reported the incident to school system officials, who began an investigation and contacted Griffin police.

Griffin police say Allen and Wilder have been charged on counts of cruelty to children and battery. They have been placed on administrative leave from the school.

It is unclear if either Allen or Wilder has a lawyer.
