UPDATE: The East Ridge Fire Department tells Channel 3 that the repair work to the ruptured gas line is nearly complete.
Gas crews apparently his a gas line during work in the area.
Chattanooga Fire Department crews are at the scene of a suspected gas leak at 4400 South Terrace Wednesday morning.
Roads surrounding the nearby area have been shut down due to gas leak. Several homes were also evacuated.
Those on hand say that the smell of the scenting agent is permeating the air, and could hear it rushing from ground into the air.
The line has been clamped to stop the leak, and crews are working to determine what caused the leak.
Chattanooga Gas workers are on hand now to fix the leak.
The proposed property tax increase would be 2.00 mills in the unincorporated locations of the county and 2.189 in the incorporated areas.
