Dozens gather to remember Melissa Ball and Grayden Whitmore
Melissa Ball and her son Grayden Whitmore were both laid to rest Monday. Dozens gathered at Varnell Elementary School to remember the mother and son. The group said a prayer, read a poem, and played Amazing Grace. The two women who organized the vigil never met Melissa or her son, but say they want the family to know the community cares.
“To be able to come together and do such a simple thing for the family is very touching,” said Tesia Lankford, organizer.
“The family had someone that was taken from them that was so dear to them and I can see that, and I don't know how I would react if someone in my family was taken from me like that,” said Kaila Jennings, organizer.
Organizers say they were encouraged by the turnout and hope the ball family knows they aren't alone during this difficult time.
