KNOXVILLE (News Sentinel) -

On the eve of U.S. Supreme Court arguments in a landmark case, some 200 gay marriage supporters, including Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero, plan to attend a rally tonight at the base of the Sunsphere.

Some residents have signed up for regular news alerts throughout the day Tuesday. Others are traveling to Washington, D.C., to be on hand for what they hope will be a historic moment.

At the University of Tennessee's law school, students and faculty continue to watch closely as the case unfolds.

“The mood here is like it is anywhere else: anticipation,” said Joan Heminway, a UT law professor and former Faculty Senate president. “The issue is still of the same amount of interest (as other places), but there's also a difference between interest and investment, and I think we're more invested in the decision.”
