#5 Lady Tide beat Vol softballers 10-3

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (UTSports.com)-- No. 11 Tennessee fell to No. 5 Alabama, 10-3, on Saturday at Rhoads Stadium.

The Crimson Tide, which won Game 2 on Friday, 3-1, took the series with Saturday's victory. Tennessee won Game 1 on Thursday, 3-2.

The game was halted for nearly one hour in the top of the fifth due to lightning in the area.

Tory Lewis scored two runs in the loss. In the fifth inning, Gretchen Aucoin had an RBI single and Taylor Koenig drew a bases-loaded walk.

Erin Gabriel (14-6) took the loss after striking out three and allowing four runs over 3.2 frames. Rainey Gaffin allowed three runs in one relief inning. Cheyanne Tarango agave up three runs in one relief frame.

Alabama's Alexis Osorio (15-7) earned the win after allowing three runs over 4.2 innings. Leslie Jury earned the save.

Alabama took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning with two outs when Marisa Runyon hit a two-run homer to right center.

Tennessee pulled to within 2-1 in the top of the third inning. With two outs and runners on first and second, Gaffin reached base on a fielding error by the second baseman, bringing Lewis around to score. The Lady Vols loaded the bases when Meghan Gregg walked in the next at-bat, but Alabama starter Alexis Osorio got out of the jam when Aucoin grounded into a fielder's choice with the third out at second base.

The Crimson Tide grew its lead to 6-1 in the bottom of the fourth when Runyon hit a two-run homer to center field. After Jadyn Spencer drew a leadoff walk, Runyon sent a 1-0 pitch from Gabriel over the fence in straightaway center for her second two-run blast of the day. Gaffin relieved Gabriel in the circle after the home run. With two outs and the bases loaded, Chandler Dare reached on a fielder's choice and drove in Danae Hays from third base. Pinch hitter Andrea Hawkins followed with an RBI single up the middle. Lewis threw out Dare at home plate to end the inning.

The Lady Vols plated three runs in the top of the fifth to pull to within 6-3. Tennessee loaded the bases and with one out Aucoin knocked an RBI single through the left side, plating Lewis from third base to bring UT to within 6-2. Two batters later, Koenig drew a bases-loaded walk to score Gaffin. After nearly an hour-long lightning delay, play resumed with the bases loaded and two outs. Alabama reliever Leslie Jury struck out Shaliyah Geathers to leave three Lady Vols on base.

Alabama scored one run in the bottom of the fifth. With two runners on base and no outs, Runyon added an RBI groundout to second base to her already-productive day, pushing the Crimson Tide's lead to 7-3.

Alabama added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth to build extend its lead to 10-3. Hawkins hit an RBI single up the middle and with the bases loaded two batters later, Gabriel re-entered the circle for Tarango. Runyon hit a two-RBI single down the right field line to give her seven RBIs on the day.

Tennessee concludes its regular-season schedule at home against Kentucky with three games from May 1-3. UT will host Dads & Daughters Night on May 1.
