CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) - The state's top high school bakers and chefs are squaring off this week in the Skills USA Competition.

More than fifty students created their favorite dishes, so that judges could sample, taste, and scrutinize their specialties.  The categories included culinary, pastry, and front of house.  They're competing for scholarships, prizes and honors for their school.

Nick Thiers, professional chef, "Today they're doing pastries and quick breads, anything to do with the culinary arts."

The event was hosted at Virginia College in Chattanooga, by the school's culinary institute, Culinard, which provides scholarships for winners in each category.
