It could be May before we know if water rates will increase.
That's when the Tennessee Regulatory Authority (TRA) will hold its next meeting and will likely make a final decision at that time.
Tennessee American Water is asking for a five percent rate increase. That would increase the average water customer bill in Chattanooga about $1.21. The money would fund infrastructure capital projects that total more than $17.5 million, including a centrifuge facility to remove zinc which naturally occurs in the Tennessee River.
Representatives for and against the rate hike spoke during Monday's hearing about the possible increase.
