Woman hits cars at welcome center prompting bystander to pull a gun

CATOOSA COUNTY, GA (WRCB) - Georgia authorities are investigating after a woman reportedly lost control of her vehicle, prompting a bystander to pull a gun.

It happened shortly before 3pm at the welcome center on I-75.

Corporal E. Tommy Bonaparte tells Channel 3 a female driver was attempting to park at the welcome center when she mistakenly hit the accelerator instead of the brake. Her vehicle hit two parked vehicles and a utility pole before coming to a stop.

“She drove in circles, hitting two vehicles, and that's when a man pulled a gun,” said Bonaparte.

Bonaparte says a man who witnesses the ordeal thought the woman was intentionally aiming for vehicles and he pulled a weapon in defense. No shots were fired. Catoosa County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident and interviewing the man involved. The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the crash.

The female driver was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. Troopers plan to interview her, but say they believe the woman was suffering from a medical condition.
