Road closures around Chattanooga and Hamilton County

Posted: Updated:

Some road construction and a planned event will close roads around the area this week, and into the weekend.

  • Shallowford Road between Jersey Pike and Stein Drive will have lane closures, both north and southbound, for a resurfacing project beginning Monday, April 13, 2015 at 7:00 am. The project is expected to last approximately one week. Flaggers will be hand hand to facilitate traffic flow.
  • The Hamilton County Highway Department advises due to the chance of rain Monday and Tuesday, Ooltewah-Georgetown Road will be open to all traffic. The dates for closure will change to Wednesday, April 15 beginning at 9:00am through Thursday, April 16th at 5:00pm from Mahan Gap Road to Smith Road.
  • Scenic Streets is Chattanooga's first ever open streets event (sometimes called a cyclovia).
Bike Tours Direct, along with the City of Chattanooga, the Chattanooga Market, North Shore Insurance, the North Shore Chamber, Publix and Nektur Marketing are sponsoring the event on Sunday, April 19th from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Frazier Avenue from Market Street to Tremont Avenue (with access to Coolidge Park and CARTA Parking open off Tremont) will be closed to car traffic and open to people.

Plans are to create “the Future Frazier Bike Lane”, a bike lane allowing people to safely ride on Frazier to the Walnut Street Bridge (without cars).

The Market Street Bridge will also be closed to cars so that people on foot and on bike can visit vendors from the Chattanooga Market. Back on the North Shore, local businesses will be on the street selling food, playing games and enjoying our Scenic Streets.

Parking will be available in Coolidge Park from the Veteran's Bridge via Tremont Street, in Renaissance Park from U.S. 27 or in the CARTA lot located behind the Shell station on Frazier or in the parking lots downtown.
