ATHENS, TN (WRCB) -
If you or a loved one has been a patient at the VA clinic in Athens, this may not come as a surprise, officials say that clinic is among the worst for long waits for non- emergency care. Tennessee VA officials blame staffing shortages at several of the state's rural and small-town clinics. At the Athens clinic about 15 percent of appointments were delayed at least 31 days. To put that in perspective, the national average was a little less than 3 percent delayed. A VA spokeswoman said officials are working to add staff.
